3. Do I need any bartending experience to enroll?

No previous bartending experience is necessary. Royal’s program is designed to take you from the fundamentals through practical bartending skills, including drink preparation, bar setup, customer service, speed, efficiency, and responsible alcohol service.

Whether you’ve never stepped behind a bar or already have some experience, the training is designed to help you become more capable and confident.

4. What will I learn in the bartending course?

Royal’s training is built around the skills bartenders actually use behind the bar. Students learn free pouring and jigger pouring, 133 cocktails, liquor knowledge and history, beer and wine, glassware, bar setup, garnishes and proper knife skills, customer service, responsible serving, speed and efficiency, money handling, and working behind an actual bar.

The emphasis is on learning the techniques correctly and practicing them until they become natural.

5. Will I receive a bartending certificate when I graduate?

Students who successfully complete Royal’s professional bartending program receive a Royal Bartending School certificate of completion and complete Royal’s speed test as part of their training.

Royal’s certificate is separate from California’s state-required Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification. California alcohol servers who are subject to the RBS requirements must complete the state’s required process separately.

6. Do I need California RBS certification to work as a bartender?

For bartenders and other alcohol servers covered by California’s Responsible Beverage Service requirements, yes. California requires qualifying alcohol servers and managers to complete approved RBS training and obtain state alcohol-server certification.

This state certification is separate from Royal’s professional bartending-school training. Royal prepares students for the practical work of bartending, while the California RBS program addresses the state’s responsible beverage-service requirements.
